How a Dress Historian Analyzed Five Extant Regency Gowns

Dress historianImagine your favorite forensic investigation show—but instead of examining an unfortunate victim, the expert works with stunning Regency gowns. Using methods including photo microscopy, Alyssa Opishinski discovered the secrets of these essentially undocumented treasures for the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth.

Ms. Opishinski is a graduate student at the University of Rhode Island. Her research is focused on the period 1790-1820, the historical intersections of textile science/technologies with changes in sewing practices, and ethics in fashion and dress studies.
