Eastern Pennsylvania Region: Jane Austen Days, Day Two (Virtual)
A Second Day of Inimitable Pleasure!
Continuing the theme of the biennial event, "Jane Austen in the Modern Age," Day Two offers two stellar presentations. First is "Caste-ing Characters in Jane Austen," by Wendy Jones. Casteism pertains to socioeconomic status in Austen's novels, but its mechanisms are the same as those that have sustained racism throughout modern Anglo-American history.
In the second presentation, Alden O'Brien will discuss "Costuming the Regency From the Bennets to the Bridgertons: Historic Sources and Designers' Choices." After this talk, you will know how to decipher costume "codes" used by designers of period films of any era.
For more information and to register, please visit the Region's website. The event is free and open to all, but donations to help offset the costs of technology are welcome. Please also note that the hours listed are Eastern Time.
