Lavaters Apparatus for Taking Silhouettes. From an ancient engraving of 1783Silhouettes and portrait miniatures were important to Georgian families as representations of loved ones. Art historian and Georgia Region member Kristen Miller Zohn will launch a year-long celebration of Jane Austen and the arts with her presentation on these little gems. She will also lead a discussion of the two chapters in Paula Byrne's book The Real Jane Austen: A Life in Small Things that focus on the ways in which Austen used these art forms in her fiction.
