Real, Solemn, Hated?

Jason Solinger, associate professor of history, gives a sneak peek of his book (in progress), Jane Austen is the History of Literature! Dr. Solinger wants you to know how much Austen hated history and—here's an intriguing idea—why hating history is crucial to the cultural history of the novel.

Dr. Solinger's research interests include the early novel, the politics of taste, and masculinity studies. In his book Becoming the Gentleman, he explains why men and women in the 18th century were haunted by the question of what it meant to be a gentleman.
