Iowa Region: The Men in Austen's Life & Works
The men in Jane Austen's real life certainly influenced her writing. With two brothers in the Royal Navy, surely Captain Wentworth's character was colored by her knowledge of their experiences. Clergymen also abounded in her family; her father and two brothers employed by the church at some point. How might they have influenced her depiction of Mr. Collins or Edmund Bertram or Mr. Tilney? Twila Glenn and Myra Goodhue will help us sort it all out at our February meeting. This event is open to the public.
