Puget Sound Region: "A House Party at Pemberley"
Country House Party and Ball
Have you ever wondered what a country house party would have been like in Regency times? Here's your chance to spend a day finding out!
Our day at Pemberley begins in the elegant Georgian surroundings of the Women's University Club, with a lecture from Dr. Regulus Allen, Professor at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Dr. Allen's talk will encompass modern-day interpretations of Jane Austen's work, including movie and TV adaptations. The afternoon's entertainment will include a demonstration of magic from Master Payne, and a sword and cane fencing demonstration by Cecil Longino and members of the Salle Saint-Georges. Evening activities will include supper in the grand dining room and a ball in (where else?) the ball room. Light refreshments will be served during the ball, and card tables will be set up for those who prefer other amusements.
This event is open to the public but all reservations must be paid in advance.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Jane Austen Society of North America.
