Vancouver Region: Presenting Fanny Palmer
Jane Austen’s Transatlantic Sister
Fanny Palmer, wife of Charles Austen, led an extraordinary, roving naval life for a genteel young woman during the Napoleonic Wars. She also developed an amicable relationship with Charles’s sister, Jane, through which she appears to have influenced Austen’s creation of female naval characters in Persuasion. Accompanied by period illustrations, Halifax-based author Sheila Kindred will introduce you to Fanny’s fascinating story.
This meeting is open to the public.
