"The Complete Jane Austen" on Masterpiece Theatre

Sally Hawkins as Anne Elliot in Persuasion
Masterpiece Theatre's season devoted to "The Complete Jane Austen" begins on January 13, 2008, on PBS stations. The four-month marathon features adaptations of Austen's six novels and an original biography, titled Miss Austen Regrets. The series includes a new production of Sense and Sensibility and the eagerly awaited Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, and Persuasion, which premiered in England last winter. Rounding out the season will be the 1996 adaptation of Emma starring Kate Beckinsale and the 1995 Pride and Prejudice miniseries, sometimes called the Colin Firth version.
JASNA's 2008 Essay Contest invites students to watch the four new adaptations (Persuasion, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, and Sense and Sensibility) and discuss one of them in relation to the novel on which it is based. The essay topic and complete contest rules are posted on this web site.
