Jane
Austen Study Weekend in Bath, 1992 I am writing to you as Editor of Persuasions on behalf of the Bath
and Bristol branch of the Jane Austen Society. Together with the University of Bristol we periodically
organise residential study “long weekends” open to all with the aim of
promoting understanding and enjoyment of the works of Jane Austen.
Our last such event, in 1989, attracted about sixty participants from all
corners of the globe and proved a very successful, stimulating and friendly
occasion – a great way of meeting like-minded people, learning more about a
favourite author, and visiting Bath. Our
next such course is to be held in Bath from 9-13 April 1992.
The title will be “Jane Austen: Text and Context” and a varied
programme of speakers, events and outings is to be offered. I realise that this is still far in the future, but we are already advanced with our planning, and, similarly, potential participants may be filling their diaries well in advance. Interested readers should write for preliminary details to: Dr. Rowena Fowler, The Extra-Mural Department, University of Bristol, Queens Road, Bristol, England. Yours
sincerely, Maggie
