June 1, 2013

The Ohio North Coast Region along with the Ladies of Victoriana Tea Society invite you to celebrate the life of Jane Austen on Saturday, June 1 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Cleveland Airport Marriott.  It will be a day of fun and informative biographical programs, capped off with a visit from Miss Austen herself!

Debra Ann Miller
Debra Ann Miller

Chicago based actress Debra Ann Miller, draws on Austen’s novels, letters and juvenilia in her portrayal of Austen in 1815, at the height of her career.  Learn about her exotic cousin Eliza, her friend and mentor Madame LeFroy, and the loves and losses that shaped her life and informed her perception of the world.

JASNA member, JoAnne Podis, a professor at Ursuline College, will be speaking on how Jane Austen is represented in the recent films and the level of accuracy of these portrayals.  She will use excerpts from the two recent “biographical” films as examples.

The luncheon menu features Red Grape and Pecan Chicken Salad Sandwich on Brioche with Fresh Fruit or Golden Egg Salad Sandwich on White Bread with Fresh Fruit. It also includes beverages and Carrot Cake for Jane’s Birthday.

Hat historian Cynthia Lundeen will talk briefly about hats in Austen’s time.  Her hats along with items from many other vendors such as Jane Austen Books, Bingley’s Teas, and costumes from The Bohemian Belle will be for sale in the emporium.
