"Austen and Byron: Together at Last"
May 3, 2008
More than 100 people from JASNA and the Byron Society of America participated in a daylong symposium entitled “Austen and Byron: Together at Last” on May 3, 2008, in Manhattan. Speakers included Professors Marcia Folsom, Peter Graham, Jonathan Gross, and Rachel Brownstein. Award winning actors Kathleen Chalfant and Erik Jensen read selections from Austen and Byron, respectively.

A conference quiz, created by JASNA-NY member Joan Ellen Delman, challenged participants to identify quotations from Jane Austen and Lord Byron. It’s not as easy as you might think. After you take the quiz, you can check your answers. (Click on the links for the quiz and the answers. Both documents are in PDF format, so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open them.)
Conference organizers, Elsa Solender (JASNA-NY) and Marsha Manns (Byron Society of America), were pleased to welcome JASNA members from Alabama, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Maine, Oregon, Virginia, and Washington, DC, who traveled to New York for the festivities.
This event was funded in part by a grant from the Jane Austen Society of North America.
