Special Announcement: to be offered conference attendees on Friday night AGM
conference registrants were given the opportunity to purchase tickets
to the Friday night performance of School
for Scandal. As there were only a limited number of
tickets available, some registrants were left without an activity on
Friday night. The Steering Committee went to work and came up with a
wonderful alternative opportunity for these Janeites. We are
offering conference registrants—including those purchasing Friday day
passes—the opportunity to purchase tickets to see Bride and Prejudice, the latest
take on Pride and Prejudice,
which is scheduled to be shown at the Chaplin Theatre, on the Raleigh
Studios movie lot in Hollywood, at 8:00 on Friday evening. This very
special showing of the Bollywood musical,
produced by Bend it Like Beckham’s
Gurinder Chadha, which reinvents P & P in a globally
connected world, is not scheduled to be released in LA until December
25. You will see music, dance & spectacle merge with love,
vanity and social pressures as Chadha transports the comic tale of a
witty young woman trying to find a suitable husband to a cross-cultural
setting that spans 21st century India, London and LA. Recently,
the AGM Steering Committee was invited to a special showing of this
movie at Miramax Films. We loved it and you will, too!
Currently, the plan is for charter buses to depart the Biltmore
Friday night at 7:15. Confirmed conference registrants--upon
arrival at the Biltmore—will have the chance to purchase a ticket for
$20. These tickets are limited in number and will only be sold at the
conference on a first-come, first-served basis. If there are still
tickets available on Friday, day pass attendees can purchase them. As
some conference registrants who have already purchased a $20 School for Scandal ticket may wish
to attend the movie instead or have made other plans, there will be a
designated place and time at the conference for Janeites to sell their
play tickets or to trade them for movie tickets. No refunds will
be available for either play or movie tickets.
A special thank you to Miramax Films and Gurinder Chadha for making this exciting event possible. |
