Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Region: Austen's Garden Legacy (Virtual)

Apr 23

4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

“Love in the Shrubbery”

Like her heroines, Jane Austen loved a garden. This session, "Love in the Shrubbery: Austen's Garden Legacy," brings Georgian and Regency gardens to life with an illustrated tour of the IMG 0149Austen family gardens and the types of gardens that appear in Austen’s books. The roles gardens played in the lives and loves of Austen and her characters will also be explored. Attendees will receive a list of flowers grown at Chawton Cottage and some garden herbal recipes.

The presentation will be given by Kim Wilson, author of At Home with Jane Austen, Tea with Jane Austen, and In the Garden with Jane Austen. She is also a past Regional Coordinator of the Wisconsin Region and one of JASNA’s Traveling Lecturers for 2022–23. She is at work on her next book, Entertaining Mr. Darcy.
