The Toronto Region welcomes
you to Jane Austen's World : Artistic, Domestic, Political, Social,
a period which was both controversial and elegant, as well as corrupt
and courtly and the theme of the 2002 Annual General Meeting
and Conference of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA)
October 11 to 13, 2002 at the Hilton Hotel, Toronto, Canada.
Our theme was borrowed
from the title of the book written by our keynote speaker, Maggie
Lane, one of the most knowledgeable and well-known Janeites, who
along with other diverting and intriguing speakers
will put the 50-year period, from the 1770s to the 1820s, under
a microscope at the 24th annual general meeting of JASNA.
Starting with circumstances
which happened shortly before Jane's birth in December of 1775,
to just after her death in 1817, the topics will examine events
artistic, domestic, political and social which impacted
on her life, whether or not these were reflected in her novels.
Our intent is to let
her many admiring readers know more about the world which Jane Austen
inhabited.
PLEASE NOTE THAT
THIS CONFERENCE IS OPEN TO JANE AUSTEN SOCIETY MEMBERS ONLY.
