Tucson Ground
Transportation Loews Ventana
Canyon Resort is located about 35 minutes from Tucson International
Airport. Several ground transportation options are available.
Parking at the Hotel
Self-parking is available on the hotel grounds free of
charge, if you are renting a car or driving to the AGM. Valet parking is available at the Loews Ventana Canyon
Resort for those who prefer to use it.
Taxi
AAA Airport Taxi, Allstate Cab, and
Yellow Cab are contracted by the Tucson airport to provide
transportation at a set mileage rate. A ride from the airport to
Loews should be about $45, but discuss the fee before getting in the
cab.
Shared-Ride Van Service
Shuttle service from the Tucson airport is available through Arizona
Stagecoach. Advance reservations are not necessary, since the desk
at the airport is open 24 hours a day. However, you can
reserve ahead of time if you prefer at
www.azstagecoach.com using
the JASNA Group ID code JAS 102706. Click on the
“Reservations” link on the home page. On the next screen, click on
“Group Reservations Click Here” and enter the JASNA Group ID. The
JASNA Group ID will give you the following rates:
- For 1 person: $40 one way or
$70 round trip
- For 2 people traveling
together: $46 one way or $82 round trip per group
- For 3 people traveling
together: $52 one way or $94 round trip per group
- For larger groups, call
520-881-4111 and speak to Jo in Group Services for rates and
reservations.
To get the lowest rate
possible, Arizona Stagecoach recommends that you do not make
reservations before you arrive in Tucson, especially if you are
traveling alone. If you arrive at the same time as other JASNA
members, you can get on the same shuttle and split a group fare
among more people. Tell the Arizona Stagecoach desk reservationist
that you are with the Jane Austen Society going to Loews Ventana
Canyon Resort and ask if anyone else from our group is on the next
shuttle. |
Frequently Asked Questions
about Flying into Phoenix
Q: Should I fly into Tucson or Phoenix?
A:
If you are not planning to visit the Phoenix area or
locations north of the city, it will be more convenient to fly into
Tucson. Shuttle and taxi services are available for the 21-mile
drive from the airport on the south side of Tucson to the hotel on
the north side, or you can rent a car. (Loews will provide free
parking at the resort.)
Q: Is shared-ride van service
available between Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and Tucson?
A: Regular
shuttle van service between the Phoenix airport and Tucson is available
through Arizona Shuttle,
but it is not door-to-door. Passengers are dropped off/picked up at three
Tucson locations. Arizona Shuttle recommends leaving Tucson 4 hours
before departure time for a domestic flight departing from Phoenix,
and 5 hours prior to an International flight.
Q: Is it
cheaper to fly roundtrip to Phoenix than to
Tucson?
A:
In the past,
flying to Phoenix was often less expensive than flying to Tucson.
Today, however, rates to and from Tucson are much more competitive
and sometimes even lower. It depends on where you live and the
airline you choose. So, shop for fares carefully. Also, before
deciding to fly into Phoenix, be sure to consider the additional
cost of a rental car or shuttle transportation to Tucson, as well as
the additional time it will take to drive back and forth to the
airport. The drive between Sky Harbor Airport and the north side of
Tucson, where Loews is located, is about 1.5 to 2 hours, but rush hour
traffic during the week may slow you down. Also, consider how late you would arrive in
Tucson, and how early you would need to leave to drive to Phoenix to
make a
flight. |
