Livestream/Virtual Option
Overview of Livestream/Virtual Package:
Five plenary lectures and five breakout sessions
Four evening special sessions, including A Conversation with Susannah Harker at no extra charge
Access to recordings of all of the above until February 1
Plus extra features currently in development to give Livestream/Virtual participants more of the feel of being at the AGM
There’s nothing like the full, in-person JASNA AGM experience and “the company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation." But for those who can’t travel to Baltimore, we are also offering a livestream/virtual AGM option. You can participate in the core conference online in real time, wherever you are in the world, as long as you have a high-speed internet connection (see technical requirements, below). All livestreamed presentations will also be recorded and available to virtual attendees to watch until February 1!
Livestream and Recorded Content
Beginning with the official Opening of the AGM, we will stream all five Plenary Lectures and five pre-selected breakout talks, as well as selected Thursday and Friday night special sessions. You can share in the energy of the conference as it happens and participate by submitting questions for the speakers during Q&A sessions.
The following sessions will be streamed live, as well as recorded for later access*:
- AGM Opening
- Carol Medine Moss Keynote Lecture by Paula Byrne
- North American Scholar Lecture by Juliette Wells
- Additional Plenary Lectures by:
- Janine Barchas, Inger Brodey, Collins Hemingway, and Devoney Looser (panel)
- Vanessa Riley
- John Mullan
- Breakout Sessions: Because the streaming technology will only be set up in one room at the conference hotel, only the breakouts in that room can be streamed. Livestream/Virtual subscribers will have access to all of the following:
- Jo Ann Staples and Kim Wilson, “Celebrating Jane Austen's Birthday”
- Dr. Po-Yu (Rick) Wei, “‘That Shyness Which Too Often Keeps Him Silent’: Jane Austen and the Ethics of Shyness”
- Claire Saim, “Jane Austen's Flamboyant French Cousin, the Countess Eliza de Feuillide, and How She Influenced Austen's Work”
- Dr. Sarah Emsley, “Books as Children”
- Dr. Carolyn Brown, Rachel Gevlin, Robin Henry, Jason D. Solinger, Dr. Alice Villaseñor, “Austen: The Adaptation Machine”
- Special Sessions:
- Special Guest Speaker Caroline Jane Knight, “Through Family Eyes: Jane Austen's Chawton Legacy”
- “Regency Looks from Jane Austen’s Books,” Fashion Show Hosted by Lena Ruth Yasutake
- Special Guest Speaker Deborah Charlton, “Steventon Uncovered: Revelations from Jane Austen's First Home”
- Special Guest Speaker Susannah Harker in Conversation with Gabrielle Malcolm
- Promotions for future AGMs and AGM Closing
In addition, subscribers will have access to recorded-only content, including a special look at the treasures of Jane Austen’s House, created especially for the AGM by Jane Austen’s House Director Lizzie Dunford.
* Inclusions are subject to change based on availability or technical considerations, but the number of included programs will not decrease.
All of these sessions are described on the 2025 AGM Plenary Speakers, Breakout Sessions, and Special Sessions webpages. Additional special features may be added later.
Interactive Elements
Thanks to technology, you will also be able to connect and socialize with other JASNA members during the conference. With the Livestream/Virtual Option, you may submit questions for plenary, breakout, and special session speakers during the livestreamed Q&A sessions. During breaks, you can use the chatbox to converse with other livestreamers and the livestream host. JASNA is using new software this year that delivers more capabilities while preserving ease of use; enhancements will be announced soon. More than ever, joining in on the AGM livestream experience is the next best thing to being there!
On or after June 26 at 12 noon Eastern Time,
Clicking the link before opening time may cause you to see a “registration full” message, even after registration opens. Please do not click the link ahead of time. Please register, if possible, by July 31, as we must meet a threshold number of subscribers by that date in order to go ahead with the livestream.
Eligibility and Fees
Just like the in-person AGM, the livestream/virtual option is open to JASNA members only. Connections are not shareable, but you may have family members watch the AGM on your screen with you. JASNA’s ability to continue to offer the Livestream/Virtual option depends on those who view the content paying the applicable fees for it.
JASNA Member Fee: $185
JASNA Student Member Fee: $150
You may pay by credit card or U.S. check.
“Attendee Plus” Option for In-Person AGM Attendees
If you are a registered Attendee at the AGM in-person in Baltimore, you are eligible to purchase access to all the recordings listed above for $65 in addition to your Attendee registration fee. The $65 add-on is applicable only to registrants for the in-person AGM, and is not transferable. Attendee Plus will appear as a separate registration type, with a total price of $435 ($370 regular registration + $65 additional) on the online registration form during regular AGM registration, which opens on June 19.
Important Dates
Because the technology and professional services required to produce a high-quality livestream event are expensive, JASNA must guarantee a minimum number of participants by July 31 to go ahead with the livestream/virtual option. This and other important dates are shown below. Please note that this year, in response to past participants’ requests, access to recordings now extends to February 1, 2026.
June 19 | Opening of registration for in-person attendance; Attendee-Plus option may be purchased as part of registration. |
June 26 | Opening of Livestream/Virtual registration. |
July 31 | Minimum number of subscribers must be met by this date. |
July 31 | Last day to cancel Livestream/Virtual registration and receive a refund, less a $15 fee. After this date, Livestream/Virtual registration and the Attendee-Plus option may be added but cannot be canceled. |
October 2 | New Livestream/Virtual registrations will still be accepted and will provide access to all recordings, but after this date, access to the Livestream is not guaranteed. |
October 15 | Access to recorded content begins for Livestream/Virtual and Attendee-Plus registrants. |
February 1, 2026 | Access to recorded content ends. |
Cancellation and Refund Policy for Livestream/Virtual Registrants
Registration for the livestream/virtual AGM option will open on June 26, 2025, at 12 noon EDT.
If you register as a Livestream/Virtual AGM participant and your availability on AGM weekend changes, you may:
- Retain your registration and watch the recordings at your convenience until February 1, 2026;
- Cancel by July 31 and receive a refund of your registration minus a $15 cancellation fee; or
- Cancel after August 1, with no refund.
If you decide to travel to Baltimore, you may convert your Livestream/Virtual registration to an in-person registration at any time, as long as space is available. Your Livestream/Virtual payment will be applied toward the in-person fee, with you paying the difference. Upon conversion, cancellation and refund policies for the in-person AGM will apply.
For information on canceling the Attendee Plus add-on or converting from in-person to Livestream/Virtual registration, please see the Registration webpage.
Registration, whether for the in-person conference or the Livestream/Virtual option, is not transferable, in whole or in part.
