JULY 2026 AGM Update

In this AGM news roundup, you'll find information on:

  • Hotel reservation consolidation
  • Hotel room availability
  • Sign-ups for participatory sessions
  • Additions to the AGM schedule
  • Activity waitlists
  • Airport transportation
  • Volunteering
  • Getting into the AGM spirit
  • Viewing and modifying your registration

HOTEL ROOMS

  • Many registrants have multiple reservations that need to be consolidated into a single length-of-stay booking. The hotel will take care of this for you within the next 7-10 days.
  • Today, we have sent out notifications about overflow rooming arrangements. These are going first to registrants who have no room reservations for the peak nights of the AGM, because we do not expect to get any more rooms for these nights at the JW Marriott. Once this group has had a chance to book, we will post information about the overflow locations in the AGM Update Center.
  • If you already have peak night reservations but want additional nights, some of the rooms that were released for Wednesday, Sunday, and Monday nights at the JW Marriott remain unsold and available for booking. Some attendees have reported that phone agents have had difficulty seeing the available nights—try the online site instead (no code is needed).

AGM SESSION NEWS

  • Sign-up forms are open for two participatory sessions: the Janeite Arts and Crafts Show and Telland Open Mic Night. Whether you want to share an artistic masterpiece, a pithy observation about Jane Austen, a brief performance, or—well, you tell us!—please fill out the appropriate sign-up form by August 31. Even if you aren't in the mood to speak, plan to attend these two sessions to hear from fascinating JASNA members and see creative projects inspired by Jane Austen.
  • Even more fresh ideas will be shared during the New Directions in Austen Research session, an addition to the AGM schedule. Elaine Bander, Laura Klein, Lesley Peterson, and Juliette Wells will discuss their new scholarly projects. It's scheduled for Saturday lunchtime; you can pick up a sandwich or salad at our cafe counters right in the meeting space and enjoy lunch during the session.
  • An informal sharing of Jane Austen's prayers will take place on Sunday. This is one of many informal activities being led by JASNA members, open to all attendees, at or near the hotel. Others include a morning bird walk with Sayre Greenfield, evening star talk with Jill Ottman, the annual Fun Run, and a group walk on the easy trail. Scheduling will be finalized in August.

TOUR AND WORKSHOP WAITLISTS

If you are on an activity waitlist, be sure to watch your email for a notification if a space has opened up for you. Read the email carefully: you must take action quickly to accept the invitation to move from the waitlist to the participant list for the activity, or the opportunity will pass to the next person on the list.

Capacity has increased for the following activities to accommodate as many waitlisted people as possible:

  • Lunch and Learn
  • Kitt Peak 1 and 2
  • Los Milics Dining and Wine
  • Sonoita/Elgin Wine Tasting
  • Beaded lanyard making
  • Poetry and prose writing
  • Mask and headband decorating
  • Book page jewelry making
  • Flower crown making.

TRANSPORTATION

  • Currently, there is enough interest to run only one charter bus each way between Phoenix airport and the AGM hotel. If you are interested in taking one of the buses, please add it to your registration now. Everyone who is registered for the buses has been sent an email with details about the status of the charters and alternatives.
  • It is not cost-effective to run charters from Tucson Airport and would not offer flexibility if flights are late, so transfers from Tucson Airport are on your own.
  • The Rideshare list is now available for those who would like to share a cab or Uber to and from the airport or elsewhere. If you are registered for the AGM, request the link to the list from jasnaconferencedir@gmail.com.

VOLUNTEERING

  • Can you give a little of your time to help make the AGM welcoming and enjoyable for everyone? We need volunteers for a variety of roles. Please share your availability and sign up on our Tucson AGM Volunteer Sign-Up Form by August 15. And thank you!

GET IN THE AGM SPIRIT

  • Prepare for warm Tucson days and cooler nights by adding a 2026 AGM t-shirt or sweatshirt to your wardrobe. Shirts show the Bath Assembly Rooms and include a tagline alluding to Northanger Abbey or Persuasion. The JASNA Fun Run t-shirt is also available so that you can run in style on Saturday morning.
  • Are you following the JASNA AGM on Facebook or Instagram? Check it out for spotlights on AGM speakers, JASNA members' tips on top Tucson museums and restaurants, and more.
