Jane Austen's Dangerous Education
Join the Central Virginia Region for a virtual presentation by Eric Lorentzen, professor of English at the University of Mary
Washington, on “Jane Austen’s Dangerous Education: Colonizing and Catechistic Curricula.” Lorentzen will offer context about dangerous education practices and texts during Austen’s era (and beyond) and then will discuss one particularly egregious form of education/textuality called the catechistic method. Although Lorentzen’s favorite Austen novel is Northanger Abbey, his talk will focus predominantly on Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park.
JASNA Central VA Region and other JASNA region members may request the Zoom link by emailing jasnacenva@gmail.com. The Zoom link will then be sent to interested JASNA attendees at least one week prior to the presentation.
