Southwest California Region: Austen's Literary Letters and Afternoon Ball
Dec 5
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Austen's Literary Letters and Afternoon Ball

We will be joined by Austen scholar Juliette Wells, professor of Literature at Goucher College and co-curator of the blockbuster exhibition "A Lively Mind: Jane Austen at 250" for the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City.
Southwest California Board member Lia Poyatos-Spencer will demonstrate letter writing and folding techniques from the Regency era in her presentation "The Lost Art of Letter Writing—How to Create Regency-Style Stationery and Write Snail Mail in the Digital World." From Regency-style letter folding, what wax seals to use to send snail mail, and how to make modern materials look more Jane Austen-esque, this workshop will give you skills to make the most ordinary letter look like an invitation to a ball.
Caller and English Country Dance choreographer Cara King will be returning to call for us once again. It does not matter if you are a beginner or an expert in English Country Dance, arriving solo or with a partner, as King will lead you through the steps during our afternoon ball.
We will also feature a holiday emporium and plated lunch with dessert.
