Southwest California Region: Genteel Arts and Manners of the Regency Era

Sep 26

9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Genteel Arts and Manners of the Regency Era

Join the California Southwest Region for a half-day meeting as we learn about the Genteel Arts and Manners of the Regency Era. We will be painting a watercolor using only colors that would have been available in Austen's time, led by Linda Lawson. Claire Bellanti will present Cassandra Austen's watercolor portraits. Historical lace group The Hedgehog Lacers will give a presentation with a brief history of lace and how it is made. The majority of the presentation will be on an American lace: Ipswich Lace.

Cost to attend is $35 for students, $40 for members, and $50 for guests/nonmembers.

Register now!

We invite all attendees to bring your handmade "accomplishments" for a Show and Tell session. Items should be historical or Austenesque in nature. These can be embroidery samplers, cross-stitched projects, knitted or crocheted items, decoupaged boxes, quilled flowers, netted purses, bonnets, handkerchiefs, and so on. Items must be labeled to be displayed, similar to a county fair display. (Paper labels will be provided at the event if needed.) Please be aware that not all items may be able to be displayed due to space constraints. Extra-large items (such as quilts) may be stored under a table and brought out during the Show and Tell session. Please do not bring precious items that might be touched.

We will also host our second "Great JASNA-Southwest California Baking Contest" at this event. Tap into your inner Mary Berry and make all those hours of watching The Great British Bake-Off pay off. Think about the theme of the presentations and bring in an inspiring dish. (If your dish contains nuts, PLEASE label it accordingly!)
