May 1 Hotel Update:
At this time, the JASNA block of rooms at the NY Marriott Hotel at the Brooklyn Bridge is full. The hotel management will not allow us to increase the block, even though there are still rooms available. It is possible that rooms will become available at the block rate if people who are holding rooms release them before September 12, but there is no way to know at this time. If you would like to come to the conference and stay at a hotel, you may do the following:
- Book a room at the higher rate at the Marriott.
- Book a room at the Sheraton Brooklyn New York Hotel on 228 Duffield Street 718-855-1900, which is about a 10-minute walk from the Marriott. We do not have a block of rooms at the Sheraton but there are rooms available at market rate.
You can also try some of the sites such as Hotel.Com or PriceLine.com to see if you can get a more favorable rate. If the situation changes, we will let you know.
The New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge’s charms include spacious meeting rooms (named after famous Brooklynites), large health club and lap pool, reasonable prices (rooms are roughly 25% cheaper than comparable ones in Manhattan) -- and location, location, location.
The neighborhood is interesting and will be a delight for attendees to discover. Manhattan is just a subway stop or two away, with major lines available at nearby stations. One block away, the TKTs booth sells discounted tickets for both Broadway and off-Broadway shows.
Make your reservation now by calling toll free 1-800-266-9432 or reserving a room online using https://resweb.passkey.com/go/JASNA2012. Ask for the conference rate for the “Jane Austen Society of North America” which is $265 per night plus tax, single or double occupancy.
Rooms can be reserved at the JASNA rate until Wednesday September 12, 2012 or until the JASNA room block has been filled, whichever comes first. Make your hotel reservation early to avoid disappointment. The conference hotel only holds a certain number of rooms (the block) for attendees at the special JASNA rate. Once all rooms in the block have been reserved, the hotel is under no obligation to provide a JASNA attendee with a room. If the hotel has extra rooms that are not part of the block, it may offer them at a higher rate. (Current lowest rack rate is $365 per night.)
Specify whether you want a king bed or two double beds when making reservations. The hotel will accommodate your preference if the type of room you want is available. The JASNA room rate applies to rooms reserved from Wednesday October 3rd through October 8th. The hotel will also honor the JASNA room rate, based on availability for Sunday September 30 through Tuesday October 2nd and Tuesday October 9 through Thursday October 11th.
Roommate Referral Service
If you would like to share a room with another JASNA member to make new friends and save money, you can request a roommate referral on the AGM registration form. The form will be mailed with the AGM registration brochure and will also available on the website reservation page. We will send you the contact information for a fellow JASNA member who would also like a roommate so that the two of you can determine whether your respective arrival and departure dates are a good match.
