Planning Your Trip

Every JASNA AGM has a distinctive approach to enhancing our core conference with a unique mix of special sessions, in-house amenities and activities, and excursions. This page highlights some of the distinctive aspects of this AGM and provides tips on scheduling your travel and activities.

The AGM Site

. . . she looked forward with delight to . . . all the comfort and elegance of their family party at Pemberley.

The 2023 AGM will be one where you can settle in and relax in a self-contained resort. We will, of course, have tours to some of Colorado’s top-notch natural and cultural sites, and we have made special plans to help you enjoy the best of downtown Denver—but at our temporary home at the Gaylord Rockies Resort, there will be activities from morning until late night and lots of comfortable spaces in which to socialize with fellow Janeites.

Dining

After welcoming their sisters, they triumphantly displayed a table set out with such cold meat as an inn larder usually affords, exclaiming, “Is not this nice? is not this an agreeable surprise?”

Relaxation and Recreation

“I am glad you are come, for there is such fun here!”

Shopping in the Emporium, games, relaxing on the terrace, and other informal activities complement the program of sessions, workshops, and tours. What’s more, the Gaylord offers hotel guests numerous recreational opportunities:

Getting Out and About

“What are men to rocks and mountains? Oh, what hours of transport we shall spend!”

During your time in Colorado, you can indeed see rocks and mountains—and much more. AGM tours include spectacular scenery and fascinating cultural sites telling the story of the west and some of its notable personalities. Complete details will be posted soon. In the meantime, this list will help you plan:

Downtown Denver

“When I am in the country . . . I never wish to leave it; and when I am in town, it is pretty much the same. They have each their advantages, and I can be equally happy in either.”

Like Pemberley, the Gaylord hotel sits majestically on its own. You’re assured of plenty of fresh air and beautiful views while staying there, but if you feel your visit to Colorado would not be complete without spending some time in downtown Denver, we’ve planned for that, too. On Sunday and Monday nights after the AGM, JASNA has reserved sleeping room blocks at both the Gaylord and at the Brown Palace in downtown Denver. We have arranged for a block of tickets to the Brown Palace’s justly famous afternoon tea; and the hotel is the ideal base for taking part in city tours on Sunday and Monday or heading out on your own to shop, explore museums, or visit some of the nearby well-known restaurants.

Reservations in the JASNA room block at the Brown Palace will open in mid-June, on the same day as the Gaylord room block opens. Details will be posted on the Hotel page soon.
